Our dining room makeover is finally finished and it’s time for the big reveal! Yay! It has been a long, slow process, but that’s just the way it goes around here sometimes. There are a few things I’d like to change (add a rug, change the accessories on top of the hutch), I just haven’t been able to pinpoint exactly what I’m looking for, so until I do, I’m calling this room “done”.
Just as a reminder; here are some photos comparing what the room looked like when we started all those months ago, to what it looks like now:
We started by designing a room in which we could incorporate our existing dining set, and the matching sideboard and hutch that we found on Craigslist (you can read more in this post). We then installed a chair rail (recycled from another room) and picture frame moldings (you can read about that here), and painted both the moldings and the wall above it.
Next, I searched far and wide for some fabric to make curtains out of, but had such a hard time finding something within my budget that would fit my extra tall windows (I needed 108″ long panels). I ended up falling in love with the pattern on a shower curtain, of all things, that I found at Homegoods. I decided to deconstruct the shower curtain and make my own curtain panels (more on that in a later post!)
My husband, Johnny, and I then purchased and installed a new chandelier. I modified a bench cushion to fit my dining room bench (you can read about that here), thrifted some chair covers to pull together my mis-matched chairs, hung some vintage silver trays as artwork, and accessorized using things I (mostly) already had.
We did stray a little bit from our original inspiration boards, but we allowed this room to evolve as we figured out how to make it serve the needs of our family in the best possible way. Regardless, I’m so happy to have this room finished! I feel like it finally reflects our family and the way we live.
Thank you so much for stopping by to see my see my dining room makeover reveal! Please let me know if you have any questions about anything you’ve seen, I’ll do my best to answer them!
