Christmas Home Tour – Sneak Peek
I’m so excited to be joining 19 other bloggers this week in a Holiday Home Tour organized by the lovely Kendra from Joy In Our Home! The tour started on Monday with Christine from Little Brags – so make sure you hop over and check out her beautiful home all decked out in holiday splendor! Once you’ve drooled over every nook and cranny (even the porch is decorated, guys!), you can follow the links to Kendra’s gorgeous home at Joy In Our Home, then onto Michelle’s home at the Painted Hinge. Then, get your bib cuz’ the droolin’ doesn’t stop there – there are plenty more homes to tour; Monday all the way through Friday! My home tour will be featured tomorrow (Thursday), so I thought I would share a couple of sneak peeks with you all.
One of my favorite spots to decorate is our little buffet in our dining room. Inspired by this rustic buffet at Ana-White.com, hubby and I were pricing the wood to build it ourselves when we came across a seller on Craigslist who could build it to our specs, for just a bit more than the cost of DIY. Since we both work full time jobs, and sometimes it just makes more sense to outsource, we decided to purchase one, then painted and stained it ourselves. It’s supposed to be a temporary solution while we save our pennies and shop around for the furniture piece we really have in mind, so we didn’t want to invest in expensive artwork, thus the chalkboard. It was super easy and inexpensive to make, and we can personalize it with the changing seasons (check out the fall artwork here). It’s been fun to doodle on, serves our needs for now, and can be moved to the den/office when the time comes.
The buffet is decked out in, what I’m calling “rustic lodge – glam” – lots of natural elements with a few sparkly baubles thrown in. I’ve used pinecones, which were (mostly) collected, along with some faux greenery mixed with fresh, and some “birch” wrapped vases holding evergreen clippings (tutorial coming soon). A couple of antlers add to the rustic feel.
This cute stag stands guard over the mini-tree – decorated in an assortment of ornaments, including the birch-bark ornaments I posted about last week, and the DIY cotton ball garland I made last Christmas.
The tree is “potted” in a galvanized tub I “picked” while at my dad’s house last Spring.
My sweet daughter is the artist in the family, and she graciously replicated this design onto the chalkboard (I’m still trying to track down the original source).
Birch logs are used throughout my home this year, and a few are leaned up against the sideboard, adding yet more rustic-ness.
And then there’s this guy… I saw him on clearance at the grocery store, of all places, and just knew he would be coming home with me. He’s staying toasty warm and oh- so – stylish with his knit scarf.
And that’s it for the sneak peek! I hope you’ll come back tomorrow to see the rest of my house decked out for the holidays! You can click here to go to day one of the Holiday Home Tour and get all caught up – don’t worry, I’ll wait right here for you.
Thanks so much for stopping by! See you tomorrow!
