Happy fall, everyone! If you’re coming here from Gracie Blue, welcome!! Isn’t Lisa’s home stunning? I’m so happy you’re here and I’m excited to be joining 14 talented bloggers for the Farmhouse Fall Tour of Homes!
If this is your first time visiting, let me introduce myself. I’m Amy; my family and I live in a small, rural community in the Arizona desert. We bought a cookie-cutter tract home and have been adding farmhouse flair to it over the last couple of years. Our lives are busy, so progress is slow, but we’re happy with what we’ve managed to accomplish on our small budget.
I love decorating for fall, but between my regular, everyday life, and preparing to launch our new online shop, I literally just unpacked the faux pumpkins and scattered them around my house the weekend before this photo shoot. I usually have my fall decor up by mid-August, when real pumpkins are scarce, so faux is the way to go for this gal!
This year’s fall decor is decidedly neutral. As much as I love the vibrant hues of Autumn, I’m craving calm, muted colors this season.
The entryway didn’t need much; some wheat, pumpkins, and a basket of cozy blankets. Our little sofa-table-turned-bench will soon be getting a fresh coat of paint, but for now, a strategically placed blanket does a good job of hiding some of the wear-and-tear of this hard working space!
Now lets head to the family room, but please, try not to disturb Oliver; he’s taking his afternoon nap. He gets a little cranky when he doesn’t have his nap.
It didn’t take much to cozy up the sofa; a chunky knit blanket and some neutral toned pillows is all this space needed.
We like to joke about our family room; we call it “the Craigslist room”. All of the furniture, except for the slipper chairs, was purchased from Craigslist. Heck, even our little Oliver was found on Craigslist!
Our media unit was another Craigslist find. It’s actually a console/sofa table that we refinished last summer. Currently, it does a a pretty good job of storing extra pillows and blankets for movie nights. The Mister retro-fitted those two middle drawers so that the fronts drop down and we can put all of the media equipment inside. Pretty clever, Mr. Home Remedies. Now, if he could just figure out a way to disguise that ugly speaker box on the bottom shelf…
We recently added these bookshelves to either side of the media unit. I’ve styled them with inexpensive items from Michaels, Marshall’s and Target, as well as a few items we’ll be carrying in our shop.
We try to incorporate as much farmhouse style as possible into this builder-grade house. Major construction projects are out of the question for awhile, so we do a lot of smaller DIY projects, like building this vintage inspired screen (tutorial coming soon). We used a scrap wood initial, handmade wreath, painted sign, and farmhouse dustpan-turned-planter to create a gallery wall, framed inside the screen. The DIY ladder creates the perfect place to store a few more blankets. I think replacing that dated wall sconce has just gained priority on the to-do list!
A vintage olive bucket and some fun little pumpkins add more fall touches to this area.
The dining room is the next stop on the tour. It’s one of my favorite rooms to decorate. I have so much fun changing out the chalkboard art each season. Actually, I can’t take any credit for that, my daughter is the artist in the family. She found this scripture art on Pinterest, then whipped up some pumpkins and vines to jazz it up. You can see a bit of last fall’s artwork here. We built another farmhouse ladder for this room, it’s the perfect spot to hang a book page wreath and some tea towels.
The buffet table is a great space to set up a coffee and breakfast bar. How cute are those rustic farmhouse serving pieces? I’m proud to say we’ll be carrying them in our shop, along with the amazing mug rack!
On the bottom shelf, vintage crates and metal bins coral the wine bottles and ironstone dishes.
The table centerpiece is basically a pile of mostly faux, painted pumpkins on top of a seeded eucalyptus table runner (I love free foliage from the neighborhood)!
I attempted to create and photograph a tablesetting, but the sun was not cooperating with me that day. It showed itself for just a couple of brief minutes before I finished setting up the dishes, so I quickly snapped a few shots. It never came out again the rest of the day. I decided to finish setting up, then leave everything until the next day, when the sun was shining brightly, but by then, the eucalyptus had dried up! I guess my tablesetting photos just weren’t meant to be! Anyways, please pardon the half-set table…
I hope you enjoyed touring my home! If you’re still craving more fabulous farmhouse style, please stop by the other two homes on the tour today; Gracie Blue, and Home By Heidi!
