My New Shop – Questions Answered
Thank you so much for your kind comments regarding my fall home tours (part 1 and part 2), and the announcement of my new online shop! I had quite a few questions about the shop, so I figured I would write a post to explain a bit about it. Let’s see, where to start? I guess the best place would be at the beginning.
Having my own home decor store has been a dream of mine for many, many years. I always imagined myself with my own brick-and-mortar, stocked with all kinds of beautiful goods for the home, helping customers personalize their spaces and make them comfortable. But…. you know how it goes, life happens, priorities change and dreams get pushed aside. I got busy following another dream of mine, raising a family; as well as pursuing a career in an unrelated field. There was no time or energy to pursue that brick-and-mortar store.
Fast forward a few years; my oldest child is now in college and my youngest is a pretty self-sufficient sophomore in high school. My career is on auto-pilot, and I find I have a bit more time to myself. That little dream of mine is still there, tugging at me, asking daily, “what if”?
What if I gave it a go? What if I finally followed that little dream to find out where it leads? What if I actually made that dream a reality?
Enter my sister and new business partner. We’ve shared this same little dream most of our adult lives. We’ve had many a conversation about opening our own store, running a business together, making this dream come true for both of us. It just never seemed to be the right time. But really, is there ever a right time? If we both keep waiting for that ever-elusive “right time”, we’ll be sitting in our rockers at the nursing home wishing we would have just gone for it!
So we’re going for it! No, it won’t be a brick-and-mortar like we’ve dreamed, but an on-line store just makes more sense right now; the flexibility will allow me to keep my full-time day job and work on building up the shop in the evenings and on weekends. And my sister will run things during the weekdays, when she’s most available. And, if all goes well, we may just open that brick-and-mortar shop somewhere down the road. But for now, we couldn’t be more excited to start living our dream!
And now to answer a few of your questions:
1. Will you still be blogging at Home Remedies?
Absolutely! I love this little blog of mine, and wouldn’t dream of giving it up! Not only will I be blogging here, but I’ll also be blogging over at VintageFarmhouseFinds.com, once we launch the shop. We’ll eventually be looking for contributors to help us out over there, so if you know of anyone that may be interested, please tell them to shoot me an email (see my “contact” info, above). And just so you know, the two blogs will remain separate. Yes, I will occasionally tell you about things happening over there that may be of interest to you, but Home Remedies will remain Home Remedies, and Vintage Farmhouse Finds will have it’s own, completely separate identity.
2. What will you be selling in the shop?
Our shop will carry farmhouse and cottage style home decor. Most items will be new products that are “vintage inspired”, but we’ll also have a variety of true vintage “finds”, sourced from all over the U.S. We also hope to offer handmade items in the near future.
3. When does the shop open?
We are planning our Grand Opening for the first week of November. There’s still much to do, so that date may change, but as of today, we’re on track for early November.
4. Can I pre-order items?
We’re sorry, but at this time we cannot offer pre-orders. You can, however, follow us on Instagram so you can see when we post special discounts and Grand Opening specials.
5. How can I stay up-to-date on the Grand Opening?
You can follow us on Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter (Facebook coming soon). There’s not a lot to see there yet, but we’ll be posting updates when we can. Also, you can look for coupons and discount codes there as we get closer to the Grand Opening.
I hope this answers some of your questions. Please feel free to ask anything additional in the comments; or email me at rxhomeremedies@gmail.com. I’m so excited about this new adventure, and appreciate you letting me share it with you here! I hope you’ll follow along as we turn our little dream into a reality!

I have just found your website and absolutely love it – along with your new store! I am most interested in where you purchased the striped table runner and the beautiful chair covers for your dining room table. I am in the process of decorating a new home and am looking for ideas.
Thanks so much, Suzanne! I’m glad you stopped by! the table runner was purchased from World Market and the chair covers were thrifted. Unfortunately, there are no tags on them so I couldn’t tell you who the manufacturer is, but I’ve heard others comment that they look like they may be “Sure Fit”. Hope that helps!
